Reading Dean’s What Works in Writing Instruction

I was most interested in the chapters on writing strategies, word processing, and writing for content learning. For each chapter, I found the summaries useful.

Writing for Content Learning

– writing is the tool of learning content material rather than end itself

– three core: writing encourages thinking, provides a record for further examination, and enables connections

– three things to consider: part of teacher’s attitude towards learning and students as part of a constructivist strategy
